An Active Lifestyle in Luxurious Surroundings
The residents of Beresheet, the exclusive residence that will soon open its doors in the green hills of Ramat Motza near Jerusalem, are part of a lively community of seniors who embrace healthy aging and the opportunity to lead a fulfilling and joyous lifestyle

Beresheet is not your typical retirement home: the new residence will welcome the young-at-heart who are eager to take advantage of life to the fullest. Its future residents are people who finally have time to learn, experience, contribute and make an impact – and who intend to continue being productive citizens as long as possible. Beresheet is forming a warm community of independent men and women from diverse backgrounds who are looking for an excellent quality of life in beautiful surroundings.
As a cutting-edge residence for seniors, Beresheet will offer the highest level of service, as well as spacious apartments, state-of-the-art facilities, and an ideal location close to Jerusalem and only 40 minutes from Tel Aviv. Moreover, the complex will be immersed in the scenic Jerusalem Mountains, surrounded by abundant, green nature and spectacular views.
Beresheet is the flagship project of Lichak, a family-owned company with over 30 years of experience managing geriatric centers. In addition to the pampering physical conditions, the project’s management has given a great deal of thought to ensuring that residents will benefit from a lifestyle that enhances both their mental and physical health. In fact, every aspect has been carefully considered in order to create the best possible experience, including a comprehensive schedule of inspiring activities and programs.
The Green Zone
At Beresheet, the concept of healthy aging is taken very seriously. One of the future residents, Dr. Merle Friedman, is a clinical and organizational psychologist who is assisting the Beresheet team with the ideation process by contributing her vast knowledge and experience on the subject of healthy aging. Merle and her husband Frank made Aliyah from South Africa two years ago, and at age 76 she still works with clients around the world. “When we decided to move to a retirement community, we looked around. Beresheet was at another level than the others we had seen. It's not part of a chain that ‘warehouses’ the elderly; rather, it offers a vision of a new beginning, and the place is beautiful. Most importantly, it caters to English speakers and the quality of the staff is far superior to other places,” she elaborates.
In fact, the staff was excited to hear about Dr. Friedman’s professional and personal experiences, and eager to apply her knowledge within the Beresheet community. Merle is an advocate for seniors looking to maintain their vitality and independence, and she promotes the goal of facilitating fulfilling and active lives while safeguarding cognitive health. Her idea, called “Smart Minds and Healthy Lives,” is now being integrated into Beresheet’s programming. “We hope to create a community of elders who have no prejudice against age, who are self-sufficient, who take little and give much to the community. Through our wellbeing, we can make a difference to the community around us,” she asserts. Beresheet’s healthy aging plan has been named the “Green Zone,” a reference to the “Blue Zones” around the world, whose inhabitants live longer and healthier lives, on average, than people in other areas. Beresheet’s Green Zone program for healthy aging encompasses seven themes: nutrition, movement, peacefulness, meaning, wisdom, culture and community. Each of these themes is being addressed in a manner that enhances the residents’ overall wellbeing and happiness.
Dr. Friedman already applies many of these principles to her own daily life. She likes to start her day by meditating for up to 30 minutes, which she follows with senses training to make sure that all five senses remain as sharp as possible. She also exercises and does 10 minutes of journaling every day, in addition to adhering to a healthy diet that includes intermittent fasting. “My lifestyle makes me feel good, but it’s important to know that everything I do is data driven or empirically sound. There is good science behind it,” she insists. Beresheet’s top managers recently visited Friedman’s home in Raanana to learn from her first-hand. After the visit, they vowed that much of her innovative approach would be available to her future neighbors as part of the Green Zone concept. The dining hall, for example, will offer selections with nutritional benefits that comply to the precepts of healthy aging.
Welcoming to English speakers
Having recently made Aliyah, Merle and her husband Frank are not fluent in Hebrew, which is why they looked for a retirement community where they would be able to manage with just English. “Beresheet welcomes everybody, and they take great lengths to ensure that English speakers feel at home,” she says, adding that she and her husband have already bonded with ten other Anglo couples who will be moving to Beresheet. “There was a special event for English speakers so that we could meet each other. We already feel part of the community!”
Indeed, although construction of the luxurious new complex will only be completed next Spring, future residents are already getting to know one another thanks to the numerous social and cultural get-togethers organized by the management. Recent events have included a communal Rosh Hashanah celebration, a culinary exhibition, and a visit to the Yvel jewelry company. At each event, English speakers receive earphones through which they can follow the lectures and presentations through simultaneous translation. As a result, non-Hebrew speakers quickly feel part of a friendly community of Israelis aged 65+ months before they actually move in. The residence itself will provide contents in English, including signage and announcements. Many of Beresheet’s 260 apartments were snapped up during the pre-sale phase, but several luxury homes are still available.
We hope to see you at Beresheet’s Open House for prospective residents on Monday, October 2nd.
