Digital information and advertising screens are now part of everyday life. From tablets to large commercial displays, they appear in almost every public and business space – in health clinics, in banks, restaurants and coffee shops, stores and malls, hotels, factories and even synagogues. They are also used by technology companies and academic institutions, primarily in the U.S. The common denominator for all is the ability to convey targeted information, messages and marketing content directly to audiences at the right place and time.
But when Israeli NoviSign was founded in 2011, the world of digital signage was far from being as simple and accessible as it is today. Operating and managing digital signage networks then required complex and expensive systems, and the company's founders identified an opportunity to make the field much more accessible. The solution they developed was based on a cloud-based platform in a SaaS model and on readily available and affordable Android players, and allowed organizations and businesses to manage and publish content to screens in a simpler, more flexible and cost-effective way.
"The idea was to build a simple system that allows businesses and organizations to remotely manage content on screens," says Gil Matzliah, CEO and co-founder of NoviSign. "We found inspiration for the product's user experience in Wix. Just as that company changed the way people build websites, we at NoviSign brought those elements to the world of digital signage and translated them into a simple operating platform for end-customers."
From its inception, NoviSign targeted the international market, understanding that such a technological platform must operate on a global scale. Today, over 90 percent of the company's sales come from customers outside Israel. "NoviSign's technology currently powers more than 70,000 active screens in over 100 countries worldwide," Matzliah says. "Part of the activity is conducted directly with organizations and end-customers, and a significant portion is managed through an extensive network of over 250 business partners, integrators and international resellers."
Continuing to Seek the Next Innovation
The U.S. market is currently the company's primary and most dynamic growth engine, and a few months ago, NoviSign made a significant strategic move by acquiring the customer base of an American digital signage software provider. "As part of this, we migrated hundreds of American organizations and companies to our platform," Matzliah says.
Currently, the company is in the midst of a technological leap, with significant investment in AI technologies across all platform components. NoviSign Studio AI allows users to describe the screen they want and generate a complete digital signage layout in seconds. They can then request changes using natural language, upload a sketch as a starting point, or translate an entire screen into another language.
"Our idea is to integrate AI technologies to make screens much smarter and more dynamic. We aspire to a world where public screens can adapt their content in real time to location, time and changing information, ensuring a continuous and effective connection between screens and people," he says.
Looking at NoviSign's journey, the company's ability to continuously evolve and adapt to rapid technological changes stands out. "We never rest," Matzliah concludes. "At every stage, we seek the next innovation, and each time we advance another step. This is a continuous sequence of innovation and growth that has persisted since the company's founding."
