Let's begin with a puzzle. What do the following scenarios have in common? A hypersonic guided missile precisely homes in on its target. A combat helicopter pilot views real-time mission control on his screen. 'Trophy' safeguards a tank crew from the threats around them. A spacecraft is tasked with missions beyond our galaxy. The answer: all need the best and most advanced hardware, that will withstand extreme environmental conditions and ensure that sophisticated systems perform reliably under the most challenging circumstances. Advanced capability such as this is built on a range of technological components. Key among them are highly adaptable processor cards — for computing, communication and video — developed by top minds to contend with a range of threats and scenarios.

Aitech Systems Ltd. is the driving force behind the success of these and many other such operational systems. For over four decades, the company has pioneered robust computing solutions for military air and ground systems and for the global space industry. It made history as the first company anywhere to introduce military-standard rugged SBC (single board computer ) in VME format, and continues to lead the development of advanced computing solutions tailored for harsh environments. Among them are cyber security for critical systems and AI powered by general-purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) technology in a range of scales and configurations. Owned by the private investment fund FIMI since 2018, Aitech operates from three main centers. Its primary manufacturing facility is in Kfar Saba, Israel where two thirds of its 250-strong workforce are employed. Two additional facilities operate out of Los Angeles in the United States, and Bangalore in India. Aitech is represented globally by numerous distributors around the world. "What sets us apart from our competitors is that we're able to tailor hardware solutions precisely to our customer requirements," says Aitech's CEO Yaron Mund. "At the system level, we integrate these solutions using building blocks that we ourselves develop and manufacture. This is what underlies our success, and has made us a top hardware provider both in Israel and globally during the past decade. Aitech prides itself on serving strategic defense industry clients — Israel Aerospace Industries, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, Elbit Systems are among them — as well as major international aviation giants, such as Boeing and Airbus, and dozens more of leading global firms. Notably, all our customers share a longstanding partnership with Aitech, characterized by trust, reliability and loyalty. The company is known for its unwavering commitment to professionalism and meticulous attention to even the smallest details, continues Mund. "These are our foundational pillars. We excel in constructing comprehensive solutions that delve deep into the realms of hardware and board-level technology, distinguishing us from the many integration firms that use off-the-shelf processor cards from different suppliers." Seamless integration Over the years, Aitech's durable computing solutions have consistently proven themselves as gamechangers, easily coping with extreme environmental conditions, from temperature and humidity, through speed and acceleration, to vibration and radiation. Customized to meet client needs, there is full transparency at every stage of production.

"Aitech's core advantage from its creation has been its dual-layered approach to integration," explains the company's Vice President of Business Development. Gil Botton, "One of these two layers is the development and manufacturing of processor cards in-house at our three facilities. The other, uses these cards as the base on which we customize different systems."

"Our wide range of components, together with our ability to produce diverse processor cards domestically, contributes significantly to Israel's security resilience," he continues. "At the macro level, it ensures our independence from external factors, while maintaining operational continuity and the development and manufacture of hardware at all three sites.."

You have considerable experience in the space industry. What adjustments did you make for this sector?

We took systems that we developed for defense industries and rigorously adapted them," explains Mund. "This approach has resulted in notable successes, including deployment of the first GPGPU in space, integrating Alexa into the Orion spacecraft computer, controlling unmanned spacecraft and managing life-support systems for manned NASA missions." Is demand for Aitech products increasing in light of today's security reality?

"As a consequence of the war against Hamas, the company is preparing for further expansion," says Botton. "We've recently secured two key projects for mission computers on strategic platforms. And we continue to leverage our experience and capabilities to support hybrid efforts focusing on development and solutions in collaboration with defense manufacturers." Aitech has grown rapidly, doubling its workforce and entering new markets, says Mund." We have very many plans for the future. Our central focus will remain on development, close client collaboration, and strong commitment to innovation, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of rugged computer systems technology in the face of future challenges."
