August is now upon us - a time where travelers flock to Israel in droves, sending hotel prices through the roof. Thanks to its warm, sunny weather, August has consistently become the most expensive month to travel throughout Israel. Last year, the average August hotel price across the country was $200.70 USD; this year, its projected to go up to $218.

So we propose the following: Why not wait a month and do Israel in September instead? The weather is equally pleasant, the hotel nightly rates are significantly lower (the average price last year was $140.12) and there are an abundance of festivals and holidays to make for an even richer cultural experience. In addition to observing time-honored Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur and Sucot traditions, visitors can also take in the following excellent events throughout a September stay:

Haifa International Film Festival, Sept. 19-28

Since 1983, the countrys first film festival has been dedicated to celebrating thoughtful, innovative works from Israel and abroad. In addition to a varied range of film sessions, the festival hosts free nightly outdoor events complete with live music, open-air screenings, an arts and craft market and a street party.
