Waterfall Security Solutions: Revolutionizing How Industries Protect Physical Assets
Despite being a leader in the industrial cybersecurity field, Waterfall Security Solutions understand that a big part of its success is its people. Itay Barak, Global Director of Solutions Architects: "I love working for a company whose solutions make the world a safer place"

Look around you – our drinking water systems, our rail systems, the power grid serving our cities and our other critical infrastructures all depend critically on computer automation. And all of that automation is under attack.
Established in 2007, Waterfall Security Solutions is a global leader in industrial cybersecurity. Waterfall’s mission is to revolutionize how entire industries protect their physical operations and industrial processes from cyber attacks. The company’s patented products and legendary customer support are what maintain Waterfall’s reputation among a growing list of critical infrastructures and heavy industry customers, all over the world.
Waterfall, off the cuff
When Lior Frenkel founded Waterfall in 2007, the biggest threat to industrial sites was powerful, targeted nation-state attacks. To counter this threat, Waterfall invented the Unidirectional Security Gateway, by far the strongest kind of network protection for industrial networks, providing 100% security against online attacks. And this is a very good thing, given that today’s ransomware groups are using these same, powerful, targeted nation-state attack techniques against critical infrastructure targets.
Under Frenkel’s leadership, Waterfall and its products have come to support a vast range of industrial and remote monitoring platforms, applications, protocols and databases, at thousands of sites worldwide. Waterfall’s hardware-enforced products enable safe IT/OT integration, remote monitoring and diagnostics, cloud connectivity, and tamper-proof forensics, all without the vulnerabilities and attack opportunities that always accompany firewalled networks.
Waterfall’s employees in Israel, the USA, Canada, Singapore, Dubai, Australia, France, and the Netherlands play critical roles in the defense of critical sites and indeed of entire industrial sectors. The company’s hardware-enforced Unidirectional Gateways and related products have been implemented in national critical infrastructures, utilities, power plants, rail systems, nuclear generators, offshore platforms, refineries, pipelines, pharmaceutical plants, chemical plants, manufacturing plants, and many other fields and industries.
A big part of Waterfall’s success is its people, and as a company, Waterfall does not see its employees as only assets. Waterfall understands how important families are. To support families, Waterfall’s employees are able to work flexible hours; performance is not measured by the number of extra hours worked, or by what time employees leave the office. Instead, the company appreciates and recognizes achievements, creativity, and excellence exhibited on the job.
Waterfall encourages employees to maintain a healthy work-life balance and an active way of life, including taking breaks during the workday. Waterfall’s managers are encouraged to delegate their work so that the load never overwhelms a single person, and so all employees can properly balance life with work.
Meet Itay Barak
Itay Barak is Waterfall’s Global Director of Solutions Architects and has been with the company for three years.
“I manage a global team of experts that works closely with Waterfall’s customers and partners to understand their needs. Based on insights from those customers, we design specific solutions to safeguard customer networks and environments against even the most sophisticated of cybersecurity threats. We also work closely with Waterfall’s R&D and support teams, to make sure that issues are resolved promptly and that customers’ expectations are met.
“Before joining Waterfall, I served for 8 years as the Director of Presale and Business Development at Celeno Wireless Communications (recently acquired by Renesas), and for 7 years as a senior presales team member at Jungo (an ex-CISCO company). “When I decided to make a career shift, I was looking for a company that would open new horizons for me, preferably in my field of interest: cybersecurity.
“What I really like about working at Waterfall is the variety of fields and industries that the company serves. And I am completely on board with the company’s vision. I love working for a company whose solutions make the world a safer place, and I know that Waterfall’s products really do make a difference.
“While I know that we are a global company with employees in different parts of the world, the company’s homey feel makes me feel like I know everyone. Every year, the company holds a kick-off event for all employees around the world, each time at a different location. For a few days, we stop everything, have some fun, and learn a lot. The company is extremely pro-employee; I feel that my needs are met and my voice is heard. Waterfall’s management is attentive to employees’ needs, and the flexible working hours make a big difference.
“While the pandemic has prevented us from traveling to customers’ sites, we have worked out how to deliver value while working remotely, and the company continues to grow very quickly. For example, just my team has doubled in size since when I joined Waterfall a couple of years ago, and we expect the team to grow by 50% again by the end of 2022.”
