In Bulgaria and Romania, the delegation met with the management of all the major hospitals in both countries, as well as the heads of pharmaceutical chains, as well as with some of the largest medical distributors in Eastern Europe.

The delegation was accompanied in Bulgaria by former Bulgarian President, Rosen Plevneliev, and in Romania by former Romanian Prime Minister, Victor Ponta. The delegation was accompanied throughout by Prof. Ze’ev Rotstein, a former director-general of Hadassah Medical Center and Sheba Medical Center, who is one of Israel’s leading health professionals, and a member of the IMPROVATE advisory board.

As respective former leaders of their countries, President Plevneliev and Prime Minister Ponta, both members of the IMPROVATE advisory board, are highly connected throughout Eastern and Central Europe, and their extensive network opens doors for Israeli companies in these fast-growing economies, which are rapidly modernizing and have large budgets for technology acquisitions in both the private and public sector.

“Israeli tech innovations have a very good reputation in my country, especially in the healthcare sector,” said Prime Minister Ponta. “Everything related to healthcare, environment, green energy, and communications is highly appreciated,” he added.

The delegation was also accompanied by Zoya Paunova, a former country director for AstraZeneca Bulgaria, who also serves as Honorary Consul General of Sweden to Bulgaria, and is a member of the Bulgarian Board of Business Women Council. Paunova recently joined President Plevneliev’s office to head the MedTech team working with IMPROVATE to facilitate business connections in Bulgaria. Paunova attended all the meetings and will follow up to close deals.
