Checkmarx: Targeting Software Vulnerabilities
Beginning with its static code analysis product 17 years ago, Checkmarx has consistently predicted future code security issues and rapidly developed solutions to identify new threats early in the software development lifecycle
Checkmarx has continually innovated in the area of application security (AppSec) since its inception and the momentum of that innovation has only increased. In 2006, I joined forces with Checkmarx founder Maty Siman; the company was born with the goal of solving the problem of vulnerabilities in software that could be exploited by malicious hackers. With more and more of our daily lives and business operations being driven by code, the critical nature of application security became evident and Checkmarx became a pioneer in this brand new industry.
More security, less risk
Within the industry’s most comprehensive application security platform, Checkmarx One, last year the company introduced three new solutions. Checkmarx Fusion helps development teams prioritize and gain context on all vulnerabilities within an application, a critical capability when most development teams are pressured to deliver code without the luxury of time to address each vulnerability found.
At a time when interaction between different software programs and data sources is increasingly common, Checkmarx API Security solved the problem of discovering and identifying even “shadow” and “zombie” APIs that were tough to locate previously and are increasingly the targets of threat actors.
And Checkmarx Supply Chain Security and Supply Chain Threat Intelligence directly address the issue of “poisoned” software packages available for use by developers in open-source software repositories.
Together in the Checkmarx One Appli-cation Security Platform, these solutions provide the industry’s most comprehensive resource for assisting in reducing risk and protecting an organization’s code and information assets. The potential in the global market is vast, as can be seen by Checkmarx’s global presence, the fact that its client base includes 60% of the Fortune 50 companies, and its adoption by many public sector organizations.
Israel leads the industry
In our industry, the Israeli ecosystem led the way, as its cybersecurity is one of the most advanced in the world. Israel was the first country to create a dedicated governmental cyber agency in the early days and until recently Israel was the only country in the world that teaches cybersecurity as an option in high-school matriculation examinations.
Israel benefits from a very rich pool of talent often coming from the best special IT units of the Israel Defense Forces. The army is typically one or possibly several technology generations ahead of the rest and this knowledge flows seamlessly through the civil world as these young prodigies join the local high-tech ecosystem.
The Israel Innovation Authority assists countless promising early stage start-ups and was instrumental to get us off the ground when we founded the company. Whether through a vast network of venture incubators or directly, it enables young companies to focus on their technology and develop an early-stage proof of concept of their project without creating value dilution, as the investments are in the form of repayable grants. As we grew, the Authority knew how to scale its investment as well, until we matured and could reach the private funding sector.
As Israel celebrates 75 years of independence, my wish for the Start-up Nation is to continue being a source of inspiration and pride to Israelis and to the world in general. The technologies emanating from Israel have changed the world for the better whether in the field of biotech, medical, cyber, ecology, etc.
