It seems as though we’ve already grown accustomed to using QR codes scanned via our mobile phone cameras in order to run apps with the touch of a hand. Yet now it turns out that our phones are capable of scanning codes from much greater distances, when the visual conditions can be blurry – and at much greater speed: from television screens, huge screens in large stadiums, or billboards. It took Sodyo cofounders Alex Alon, a Weizmann Institute graduate in physics, and Rina Alon, a Hebrew University graduate in mathematics, many years to invent and register their unique patent: a color matrix similar to a Rubik’s Cube that is recognized at long distances and opens up a new and wonderful world for users.

To feel the game in real time

Sodyo staff relate that their patented technology was quickly adopted by several television networks, including HBO LATAM, which allow their viewers to “enter the screen” so they can, for instance, answer game-show questions in real time, or vote for contestants on reality shows. They also point out that, half a year ago, an internationally loved soccer club was seeking a technology to connect viewers at the playing fields and at home with the big screens that broadcast the games and choose to work with Sodyo..

Sodyo is currently expanding its sports activities to include a leading soccer team in the US, and is continuing with its large-scale activity in logistics via its subsidiary, Zimark, and in partnership with ZIM. “We now have a solution for scanning codes from very great distances,” says Alon Raz, Sodyo’s CEO. “Our technology is especially important in the sports world; it lets fans feel the game in real time. Scanning the code that appears on the home or stadium screen, and connecting the viewer to the content that displays all the relevant information: from game stats to options for viewing replays and make purchases.” Raz adds that the solution offered by Sodyo contributes to the deep emotional connection between fans and the team/the game.

Another service that the Sodyo technology provides is ad targeting per user preference. The system is capable of displaying all the relevant information for each viewer, thanks to a targeting technology embedded in the information provider’s application: “The stadium spectator also has the option of ordering food to his place in the stands, or buying merchandise from his favored sports club.” According to Raz, the system will soon enable users to make NFT purchases that entail rapid response times and the use of advanced digital purchasing mechanisms.

“Companies that want to be at the forefront of sports tech have to let the fans be part of what’s happening on the playing field,” Raz sums up. “Our system is the best solution that currently exists for enabling connection with the audience at a distance, especially outdoors.”
