At AION Labs, we recognized early on that in order to revolutionize the world of drug discovery and development, we needed to embrace groundbreaking AI technologies. That's what brought together pharma and cloud computing leaders, top VCs, and scientific and AI talent to create a hub for innovative minds from Israel and around the world to tackle some of the biggest challenges in the pharmaceutical industry.
As I look back on the formation of AION Labs, I am reminded of the excitement and anticipation that surrounded our launch one year ago. We knew that we were embarking on a journey that would require us to think outside the box, challenge the status quo, and push the boundaries of what was possible in the world of drug discovery and development. And we haven't looked back since.
A pioneering ecosystem
Our approach is unique in the world of drug discovery and development. Each start-up within the venture studio will implement the power of AI and the scale and security of the cloud to find new treatments faster and more efficiently and bring hope to patients. AION Labs is focused on helping enable the industry to accelerate and improve health outcomes from an efficiency standpoint. We believe that our multi-disciplinary approach, which leverages years of accumulated know-how, data, and experience in big pharma, will pave the way to the future of healthcare.
One of the important factors that makes AION Labs so impactful is our location in Israel. Israel's thriving start-up ecosystem, with over 400 companies in data analytics, roughly 20% of which are in Health Tech, is a well-established leader in AI, machine learning, and computational technologies, with a wealth of life sciences talent. Israel is home to leading universities and medical centers with over 3,000 individuals holding Ph.D.s in life sciences. It is this combination of expertise and ingenuity that makes AION Labs such a force to be reckoned with in the world of biotech.
But we can't rest on our laurels. As Israel marks its 75th birthday, we need to continue to build new national growth engines for our economy for the next 75 years. It is therefore crucial that the government has committed and maintains its commitment to the growth of the life sciences industry. The biotech industry is placing increased emphasis on the “tech” component, and Israel is well positioned to be a pioneering ecosystem at a global scale for bioconvergence.
