The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Transcript:

STEPHEN COLBERT: Do you think that there is a similar appeal between you and Donald Trump. Because I had Bill O'Reilly on the show on Monday night, and he said you guys are the same thing with different haircuts, and the polls show there are a lot of people in New Hampshire who made up their mind at the last minute between you and Donald Trump

BERNIE SANDERS: Let me say something about Bill O'Reilly. And this is a reason why people might want to vote for me. He said that if I won the presidency, he would move to Ireland.

Electing me president is a two-fer. You get me as president, and you get Bill to go to Ireland.

COLBERT: But there are people who are trying to choose between you and Trump, why would that be? You don't seem like two sides of the same coin.

SANDERS: A lot of Donald Trump supporters are angry, they are the kind of people who are working longer hours for lower wages...

But I think what they have done is responded to Trump's false message, which suggests that if we keep muslims out of this country, or scapegoat Latinos or Mexicans, somehow our country becomes better, I think that is a false view... People have a right to be angry, but what we need to be is rational in terms of figuring out how to address the problems, and not simply scapegoating minorities.
