Trump Rips 'Degenerate Fool' Bernstein, Calls for CNN Chief to Be Fired Over Trump Tower-Russia Story

'Sloppy @carlbernstein, a man who lives in the past and thinks like a degenerate fool, making up story after story, is being laughed at all over the country!'

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday attacked veteran journalist Carl Bernstein and CNN over a now controversial report claim the president knew about 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian official. On Thursday morning, Trump continued the attack calling for AT&T to fire "Little Jeff Z," refering to CNN President Jeff Zucker.

“CNN is being torn apart from within based on their being caught in a major lie and refusing to admit the mistake. Sloppy @carlbernstein, a man who lives in the past and thinks like a degenerate fool, making up story after story, is being laughed at all over the country! Fake News”.

Trump followed that tweet with two more calling the media the "Enemy of the people" in one and defending Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump in another.

Donald Trump Jr. lashed out in a similar fashion on Sunday, claiming that CNN was "covering" for Bernstein. Bernstein was one half of the reporting team that broke the Watergate scandal, which resulted in U.S. President Richard Nixon's resignation.

Bernstein's CNN story, written with Jim Sciutto and Marshall Cohen, alleged that Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer was willing to talk to special counsel Robert Mueller about a 2016 meeting between Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer discussing the release of material harmful to Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign. Cohen has stated that U.S. President Donald Trump knew about the meeting.

"Comical to watch @CNN covering for leftist hack @carlbernstein," tweeted the younger Trump. "He & Obama staffer @jimsciutto obviously got story wrong. CNN 'stands by' it anyway, defending literal fake news. 3 'reporters' were fired for false CNN hit on [former White House communications director Anthony] Scaramucci & this is FAR worse!"

The Washington Post also published a similar story, citing Lanny Davis, Cohen's lawyer, who agreed to go on the record.

Since the publication of the article though, Davis has backtracked on his statement, saying that he is not sure to what extent Cohen knew about the meeting.

CNN released a statement, "We stand by our story, and are confident in our reporting of it."

Trump himself also tweeted on the subject, saying, "Michaels Cohen’s attorney clarified the record, saying his client does not know if President Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting (out of which came nothing!). The answer is that I did NOT know about the meeting. Just another phony story by the Fake News Media!"
