Britain's House of Commons Speaker John Bercow, known for his fiesty temperament and florid style, has said he will stand down from the role.
Bercow played a key role in the three-year Brexit crisis and issued a warning to the government Monday not to "degrade" parliament.
Bercow's put-downs of misbehaving lawmakers, ranging from headmasterly to acid, have made him something of a cult figure among global television news audiences and on Brexit-following social media.
Known for his trademark "ORDER" holler, Bercow, who is Jewish, has championed parliament against the executive more than any recent predecessor.
Bercow has occupied the throne-like speaker's chair, positioned between government and opposition benches in parliament, since 2009, but is set to step down on October 31.
