Britain's Prince Harry and former U.S. actress Meghan Markle are officially married after the couple exchanged vows and rings during a wedding service at Windsor Castle Saturday.

Flanked by page boys and bridesmaids, American actress Meghan Markle walked down the aisle of the 15th century chapel in Windsor Castle where she married Prince Harry in a dazzling display of British pomp and pageantry.

After entering St George's Chapel unescorted, Markle - wearing a dress designed by Clare Waight Keller - made her way towards the Quire, halfway down the church where Prince Charles walked her to his son, Harry.

White roses, the favourite flowers of Harry's late mother Princess Diana, adorned the chapel. Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, 61, appeared tearful.

Prince Harry, dressed in a military frock coat uniform, and his brother, best man Prince William, waited for Markle at the altar.

Tens of thousands of fans lined the route Markle took towards the castle, waving British flags and cheering as the Rolls-Royce limousine drove past with Markle and her mother, Doria Ragland, 61.

Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, Elton John, the Beckhams and the Clooneys were among the celebrities arriving at the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle, with a mix of big names from the worlds of entertainment and sport expected at the nuptials.

British air traffic controllers gave Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a rare wedding gift - 15 minutes of guaranteed peace and quiet for the ceremony without the roar of airliners passing overhead.

Britain's National Air Traffic Services said the nearby Heathrow Airport had agreed "a 15 minute no-fly period over Windsor" in the build-up to the vows.

Actor George Clooney was among the first major celebrities to arrive, accompanied by his lawyer wife Amal, who wore a mustard yellow dress and hat.

Soccer star David Beckham arrived soon after, with his wife Victoria, once a singer with the Spice Girls and now a successful fashion designer, wearing a long, sleek, dark dress.

Dressed in pale pink, Winfrey added a touch of Hollywood glamour inside the chapel, wearing sunglasses as she chatted to British actor Idris Elba ahead of the service.

Elton John, who sang at the funeral of Prince Diana, was also there as was tennis champion Williams, who posted a picture of herself getting ready for the wedding on Instagram.

Markle previously starred in the television series "Suits" and some of her fellow actors were also seen arriving at the chapel. Actress Priyanka Chopra and television host James Corden were also spotted ahead of the ceremony.
