A video clip which was released shortly after Friday's shooting in Munich, in which nine people were killed, shows the vocal argument that broke out between the shooter, Ali David Sonboli, an 18 year-old Iranian-German pupil, and 57-year-old tractor driver Thomas Selby, who watched him from his balcony as he was pacing on the top floor of a nearby parking garage.

In an interview with the German newspaper Bild Selby said: “I was having a beer after work and I heard gunshots. First they were in McDonalds – boom, boom, boom. Then people were running out of the car park. It’s right under my house. I looked from my balcony and saw him reloading his pistol. I threw my beer bottle at him. It broke on the glass roof” he said.

The content of their argument was captured on video and spread over the internet. Another person joined their argument, perhaps a neighbor who took the video. His words blended in with the others in some cases, making it hard to understand what was said.

The neighbor: “You’re a son of a bitch.”

The shooter: “Because of you I’ve been abused for seven years.”

The neighbor: “You’re a son of a bitch.”

The shooter: “And now I have to buy a pistol in order to shoot you.”

The neighbor: “A pistol? Go f---k yourself.”

The shooter: “I’m German.”

The neighbor: “You’re a son of a bitch, that’s what you are.”

The shooter: “Stop taking pictures.”

The neighbor: “You son of a bitch, what are you doing?”

The shooter: “I was born here.”

The neighbor/other person whose voice can be heard: “F----ing foreigners.”

Neighbor: “What the hell do you think you’re doing.”

Shooter: “I grew up here in area Hartz 4 (a hardscrabble neighborhood whose residents are supported by the government).”

Neighbor: “You’re a son of a bitch, you.”

Shooter: “You’re right, you’re right, you’re right.
