Austria’s postal service issued a special Brexit stamp on Friday that seems to shrug at Britain’s farewell from the EU.

The stamps were already produced last year with the original exit date of March 29, 2019, but they never went on sale as the divorce from the European Union was pushed back to January 31, 2020.

Instead of redesigning and printing new ones, the dates were crossed out on the existing stamps with a simple line, and the final Brexit date was printed beneath it. “It would have been a waste to throw them away,” Austrian Post spokesman Michael Homola told dpa.

The 140,000 Brexit stamps that were printed have a denomination of 1.80 euros (1.98 dollars), enough to send a standard letter from Austria to destinations outside of Europe.

“I am sure it will end up in many collections, but I’m also sure that a few people will surprise their relatives in Britain with a letter carrying this stamp,” Homola said.

Some social media users lauded Austrian Post for expressing continental Europe’s views about Brexit. “The finest European trolling I’ve ever seen,” a user wrote on Twitter.
