British musician Morrissey attacked halal (Islamic dietary laws) and kosher meat practices on Tuesday in a self-published interview, saying they should be banned. Infamous for his far-left views and controversial statements on topics like race and animal welfare, Morrissey described kosher food production as "very cruel" and called for its prohibition.

"Halal slaughter requires certification that can only be given by supporters of ISIS," said the former Smiths frontman in the interview, describing the practice as "evil."

"I am not saying that stunned slaughter is acceptable, because it couldn't ever be," Morrisey said regarding Halal practices of stunning animals before slaughtering them.

"If you use the term 'humane slaughter' then you might as well talk in terms of 'humane rape.'"

Morrissey also criticized British Prime Minister Theresa May for wishing Muslims well on holiday Eid al Adha, saying "millions of animals had their throats slit to mark the occasion. I wonder what kind of compassion she could possibly have."

According to The Guardian, Morrissey has long been charged with racism for comments like calling Chinese people a "sub-species" and argues that the worst form of racism is against animals.

"If you eat animals, isn't it a display of hatred for a certain species? And what gives you the right to eat another species or race? Would you eat people from Sri Lanka?," he is quoted in the Guardian as saying once.

Commenting on racism in the interview, Morrissey said: "as far as racism goes, the modern Loony Left seem to forget that Hitler was Left wing! But of course, we are all called racist now, and the word is actually meaningless."
