French officials and police gathered at police headquarters in Paris Wednesday to honor policeman Xavier Jugelé, who was shot dead in an attack claimed by ISIS in central Paris last week.

Jugelé’s husband, Etienne Cardiles, delivered an emotional eulogy at the ceremony, saying “I don't feel hatred, Xavier, because it is not like you because tolerance, dialogue and patience were your strongest weapons.”

Shortly after the attack in Paris, President Francois Hollande stated he was convinced the "cowardly killing" on the Champs Elysees boulevard, in which the assailant was himself shot dead by police, was an act of terrorism.

Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins said the assailant had been identified, but investigators were still assessing if he had accomplices.

France has lived under a state of emergency since 2015 and has suffered a spate of ISIS attacks mostly perpetrated by young men who grew up in France and Belgium and that have killed more than 230 people in the past two years, according to Reuters.
