Rabbi Nachman of Breslov's Grave in Ukraine Vandalized With Pig's Head, Fake Blood

The head of a pig with a swastika carved onto its forehead was found on the grave of a famous rabbinical sage, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, on Wednesday in Ukraine. The inside of the grave's compound was liberally spattered with fake blood, coloring the tile floor, walls and sacred books red.

Worshipers threw the pig's head out of compound upon finding it, Yeshiva World News reported, before calling the police to investigate the violation of the grave. No arrests have been made yet.

A number of Israeli politicians, including Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid, have called on Ukrainian authorities to investigate the desecration of Nachman's grave. Interior Minister Arye Dery said he would call on the Ukrainian president himself to take swift action against the perpetrators and beef up security at the site.

Deputy Minister Meir Porush said he talked with Israel's ambassador to Ukraine and asked that he convey the "shock that all people of Israel feel" after the anti-Semitic act.

Nachman of Breslov, in Yiddish known as Reb Nachman Breslover, wss born in 1772 and died in 1810. He was a great-grandson of the Baal Shem Tov, founded the Breslov Hasidic movement and propounded the principle of "hitbodedut" – establishing a personal relationship with, and talking with, God.
