The exact motives of the 25-year-old British citizen of Somali descent who is suspected of murdering lawmaker Sir David Amess in a southern English town on Friday are still unclear.

Scotland Yard confirmed they are investigating the incident as an act of terrorism, and it has been reported that the suspect, Ali Harbi Ali, had been known to the state’s counterterrorism program. However, his choice of target is not an immediately obvious one.
