HBO’s late-night political satire show “Real Time with Bill Maher” went off the rails briefly Friday when conservative radio talk show host Dennis Prager claimed that accusations of racism and anti-Semitism in American culture are “giant left-wing lies” akin to saying “that men menstruate” — a reference to the trans-bathroom debate.
“This is the least racist, multicultural, multiethnic country in the world, and the fact that these people will believe it tells me how effective they can be,” said Prager. “This is an unbelievably non-racist country.”
When Maher pushed back, Prager countered by saying: “I am a Jew and yes there are anti-Semites in America. But America is not an anti-Semitic country.”
He continued, “To say this is the most anti-Semitic country is a lie. To say this is the most racist country in the world is a lie. These are giant left-wing lies.” Prager continued, arguing it is like saying “that men menstruate.”
Maher jumped in and tried to turn the conversation around, suggesting they could find common ground when discussing trans-rights, but “the way you framed it is nonsense.”
“Just Google it,” concluded Prager. “UC Berkeley restrooms have tampon dispensers in the men’s room.”
The segment kicked off with a conversation between journalist Ronan Farrow and Maher about how Farrow managed to turn an operative from Israeli private intelligence company Black Cube into a source for his recent book “Catch & Kill.”
