Canadian-Jewish organizations and prominent members of the local Jewish community are calling on the Canadian government to distance itself from what they describe as antisemitic comments made by members of Canada’s Foreign Ministry about a former Canadian ambassador to Israel.

In late March, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation published an article quoting six unnamed Canadian government officials, who said that former Canadian ambassador to Israel Vivian Bercovici was “more of a spokesperson for the Israeli government than the ambassador for Canada” while she represented the country in Tel Aviv.
