Thousands of Ukrainians marched through the streets of central Kiev holding torchlights on Tuesday night to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Ukrainian nationalist hero Stepan Bandera's birth.

Chanting "Glory to Bandera!" and "Glory to Ukraine!", about 5,000 people marched waving the red and black flags of Ukraine's nationalist movement and the blue and yellow flags of the far-right Svoboda ("Freedom") party.

National Corpus, a political party established in 2016, held their own march.

Ukrainians march to celebrate anniversary of nationalist hero's birthday

National Corpus set the renewal of Ukraine's nuclear status and break of any ties with Russia as its main political goals.

Stepan Bandera is seen in areas of western Ukraine as a hero of the independence struggle but regarded by many in Poland and Israel as well as Russia as a terrorist and Nazi collaborator who died with the blood of thousands on his conscience.
