Ivanka Trump & Jared Kushner Visit the Chabad Rebbe's Ohel For a Blessing Before The Election

As presidential candidate Donald Trump spent his weekend barnstorming swing states and rallying crowds to his cause, his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, a key campaign adviser, teamed up to seek support from a higher power.

The couple, who are observant Jews – Ivanka having converted to Judaism before her marriage – stayed off the campaign trail and in New York City over Shabbat – and were spotted on Saturday night at the site of the grave of the Lubavitcher rebbe in Queens, NY.

The site they visited is known as "The Ohel" – the Hebrew word for “tent” – and it is the structure build over the grave of the venerated seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem M. Schneerson, who was buried there alongside his father-in-law in 1994.

Tens of thousands of visitors come to the grave every year to receive a posthumous blessing and inspiration from the late rebbe. The Chabad website asserts that “the Righteous are even greater after their passing than during their lifetime, and the constant stream of visitors to the rebbe's resting place (the Ohel) from every sector of the Jewish nation testifies to the powerful truth of their words.”

In his lifetime, the rebbe was no stranger to politicians, including presidential candidates, who would often make the pilgrimage to his home in Brooklyn seeking his blessing – and, clearly, the appearance of his political support.

Some, however are crediting the Kushners' gesture with doing more than winning Trump votes.

An ultra-Orthodox website featured the headline: "Ivanka Prays – The Donald Saved! As Ivanka Was At Ohel Of Rebbe, Secret Service Rushed Him Off Stage."

The Yeshiva World News report noted that the Kushners' visit took place “at around the same time” Secret Service agents suddenly pulled the Republican candidate offstage at a rally in Reno, Nevada when a threat to his life was suspected.

Trump was rushed off of the stage of his rally after someone shouted "gun," according to the Secret Service. Security guards and armed police subsequently escorted one man out of the venue, but it was reported later that no gun was found.

Some of Trump’s fans on Twitter embraced the theory that divine intervention on the rebbe’s behalf spared the candidate’s life.
