For the first time in months, Republican U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump outdid his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton at a poll, if only by less than a point.

In the latest ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll published Tuesday – a week before the U.S. election – 46 percent of likely voters said they would support Trump, while 45 percent said the same of Clinton. Dividing the two candidates was .7 of a percentage point.

Trump reacted to the findings on Twitter, saying "Wow, now leading in @ABC/@washingtonpost Poll 46 to 45. Gone up 12 points in two weeks, mostly before the Crooked Hillary blow-up!"

The results come against the backdrop of the FBI director's decision to publicly alert Congress that his organization had new information that could be pertinent to its initial email investigation against Clinton.

As for voters who are very enthusiastic about their choice for presidency, as of Friday Trump lead at 53 percent, with Clinton garnering 45 percent, according to the poll.
