Accoding to conservative sources, Adelson and members of the Republican Jewish Coalition are planning a trip for Trump similar to Mitt Romney's trip to the country in the summer of 2012. “I’m sure Sheldon suggested the trip,” one source was quoted as saying.
Sources close to Adelson, who is also a top donor to the Republican party, say he has promoted a trip to Israel as being advantageous for Trump.
Last week, Adelson, whose family put up almost $90 million in the 2012 presidential race, also indicated that he would contribute over $100 million to Trump's campaign.
Trump stated that he is planning to travel to Israel in the coming months in an interview with the Israel Hayom newspaper last week.
In a statement, the spokeswoman for the Trump campaign said that “there are no plans for a visit at this time.”
Trump postponed a planned trip to Israel in December, after Netanyahu distanced himself from the presidential candidate's proposal to bar all Muslims from entering the United States, saying he didn't want to "put Netanyahu under pressure." Several dozen Israeli lawmakers had called on the prime minister not to meet with Trump when he visits the country.
