Allowing his rival no time to bask in the glow of what has been hailed as a positive and unifying convention capped by her remarks, Trump lashed out at Clinton in a storm of Tweets that was launched as soon as her speech was completed Thursday night, aiming his criticism squarely on the hot-button issues of terrorism and immigration.
“Hillary's refusal to mention Radical Islam, as she pushes a 550% increase in refugees, is more proof that she is unfit to lead the country,” the Republican nominee tweeted. “Our way of life is under threat by Radical Islam and Hillary Clinton cannot even bring herself to say the words.”
He followed up with the assertions that “Hillary's vision is a borderless world where working people have no power, no jobs, no safety” and that “Hillary's wars in the Middle East have unleashed destruction, terrorism and ISIS across the world.”
In the course of her Thursday evening speech, Clinton attacked Trump’s competence and expressed doubt as to whether Trump had the temperament to be commander in chief since he "can't even handle the rough-and-tumble of a presidential campaign." She noted that Trump loses his cool at the "slightest provocation" – tough questions from reporters, challenges in a debate or protesters at a rally, and of course, on social media.
"A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons,” she said. Her remarks came on the heels of an emotional speech by the father of a Muslim fallen soldier who asked if Donald Trump “had even read the United States Constitution. I will lend you my copy.”
Trump responded on Twitter with a character attack of his own on Hillary Clinton’s ability to lead America’s defense. “No one has worse judgement than Hillary Clinton – corruption and devastation follows her wherever she goes.”
