Iranian Plane Crashes; All 66 on Board Confirmed Dead

Eyewitnesses report the plane tried to perform emergency landing in southern Iran ■ Civil Aviation Authority confirms no survivors

Iranian authorities said that a commercial plane that took off from Tehran crashed Sunday. Iran's Civil Aviation Authority said that all 66 passengers and personnel onboard the plane were killed in the crash.

The plane took off from Tehran and was en route to to Yasuj, when it crashed in Mount Dena near the city of Semirom in the Isfahan province, the news agency ISNA quoted emergency services spokesman Mojtaba Khaledi as saying. 

The Iranian Red Crescent said it has deployed to the area, which was quite foggy at the time of the crash. Authorities said they would be investigating.

Media outlets in Iran say eyewitnesses saw the plane attempt to make and emergency landing.

Photos published indicate the plane was an ATR 72-500 operating for Iran Aseman Airlines.
