Palestinians: 57 Wounded in Clashes Throughout Gaza, West Bank; One in Life-threatening Condition

Palestinian Health Ministry: One critically wounded by live fire shot by security forces in Gaza ■ Israeli army: 850 protesting throughout West Bank

A Palestinian is in life-threatening condition after being shot in the head with live fire during clashes Friday east of the Jabalya refugee camp near Gaza City, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported. Fifty-six others were wounded in clashes throughout the West Bank and the Gaza Strip

According to the Israeli army, some 850 Palestinians demonstrated at 13 key flash points throughout the West Bank. Protesters threw stones and Molotov cocktails, the army said, adding that Israeli forces used various means of crowd dispersal.

Some 400 Palestinians took part in demonstrations along the fence at Israel's border with Gaza, where protesters threw stones. The army said it fired live ammunition at the demonstrators on several occasions to disperse crowds.

The Palestinian Health Ministry reported of clashes taking place at the entrance to the al-Fawwar refugee camp south of Hebron, as well as near the settlement of Itamar west of Beit Furik near Nablus in the northern West Bank.

Other than the critically wounded Palestinian, three more people were moderately wounded by live ammunition near Jabalya. Additionally, 26 people were wounded in clashes in the northern Gaza Strip and east of Gaza.

In the West Bank city of Nablus, nine Palestinians were wounded by live fire and rubber bullets. Fourteen Palestinians suffered light to moderate wounds in the area of Ramallah. In Jericho, five Palestinians suffered wounds in clashes. Another Palestinian was injured near Bethlehem and another in Beit Jala.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old Palestinian boy was arrested near the West Bank settlement of Hashmonaim while carrying a knife. He approached the entrance of the settlement, refused to identify himself and attempted to escape. The knife was found immediately after his arrest. Slightly earlier, Israeli Border Police forces arrested a Palestinian who attempted to enter the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron with a knife.

The confrontations took place in the wake of a raid killing Ahmed Nasser Jarrer, who led the January attack near Havat Gilad. Jarrer was killed Tuesday morning by Israeli security forces attempting to arrest him in the West Bank village of Yamun near Jenin.
