Maccabi Hod Hasharon and Maccabi Tel Aviv will today meet in Ra'anana in the volleyball State Cup finals.
Maccabi Tel Aviv yesterday beat Hapoel Kfar Sava 3-0 (25-14,25-14,25-12).
Hod Hasharon beat Hapoel Hamaapil 3-0 (25-16, 25-20-, 25-20). In a previous encounter only a week before, Hamaapil had upset Kfar Sava.
Hapoel Hamaapil already has two claims to fame: It is the team with the most trophies in the history of Israeli volleyball, as well as the team with the longest official name: Hapoel Hamaapil/Emek Hefer/Menashe.
But while the team has a distinguished past, it is currently fighting against being relegated at the end of the season.
"This is the classic final," both the Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Hod Hasharon coaches yesterday said.
Despite having won many time in the past, Maccabi Tel Aviv's trophy cabinet has not received a new addition in the last 10 years. Last year's winner of the league championship and the state cup, Hod Hasharon, is vying for both titles again this season.
