Amateur footage published by The Guardian appears to show suspected driver Sayfullo Saipov attempting to escape after carrying out a deadly truck-ramming attack
Sayfullo Saipov, a 29-year-old man from Uzbekistan, has been identified as the suspected driver in a truck-ramming attack that killed eight people and wounded at least 12 in the New York City borough of Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.

Following the deadly incident, which authorities are treating as a terror attack, Saipov was shot and taken into police custody. Amateur footage recorded moments after the attack appears to show Saipov brandishing what looks like a firearm while he runs through the streets of Manhattan before being apprehended by police officers.

CNN reported one source claiming that Saipov, who migrated to the U.S. legally in 2010, had left a note on his person that claimed allegiance to the Islamic State, though this has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
