Comedian Samantha Bee savaged U.S. President Donald Trump's daughter and official adviser Ivanka Trump on the most recent episode of her show "Full Frontal" on Wednesday - but apologized for her verbal onslaught a day later.
The former "Daily Show" regular did a short segment about the recent controversy surrounding reports that the U.S. government has misplaced some 1,500 children of migrants due to the U.S. policy of separating migrant children from their parents.
Bee began joking, “We’re going to talk about racism and I just popped an Ambien, so buck up everyone! Believe it or not, something even more important was on Twitter this week.”
Bee then went on to explain the controversy and the policy, which she openly admits has been commonplace in the United States for years and that Democrats also bear responsibility.
But then Bee went after Trump. “Ivanka Trump, who works at the White House, chose to post the second most oblivious tweet we’ve seen this week. You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices you feckless c***!”
“He listens to you,” she continued. “Put on something tight and low-cut and tell your father to f***ing stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes, OK?”
Bee is due to receive a special honor from the Television Academy on Thursday for "advancing social change" for her work on the show.
Fox News quickly put up an article insisting outrage ensued after the program aired. Fox quoted two social media users in its report:
“If this statement had been addressed to a child of a former president, Samantha Bee would be out of a job,” one social media user wrote.
“Roseanne deserved to get fired for her comment. Samantha Bee called Ivanka a 'c---' on air and Keith Olbermann routinely calls the president a 'motherf---er.' Do you think either will get fired? Maybe see why so many Americans think there’s a media double-standard for liberals,” another tweeted.
Bee issued an apology on Thursday, tweeting, "I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it."
