Planned Parenthood Chief Claims Jared and Ivanka Offered Her a 'Bribe' to Stop Abortions
Cecile Richard's new memoir alleges that Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump offered her what felt like a 'bribe' to stop abortions in exchange for more federal funding
The head of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards released a new memoir Tuesday titled “Make Trouble” in which she alleges that Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump offered her what felt like a “bribe” to stop abortions in exchange for more federal funding.
Richards, who is Ann Richard’s daughter, explained that a mutual “fashion friend” encouraged her to reach out to Ivanka Trump and eventually the two scheduled a sit down with their husbands in January of 2017 after Donald Trump's victor over Hillary Clinton. At the meeting Richard writes that Kushner told her Planned Parenthood “had made a big mistake by becoming ‘political.’ ”
“The main issue, he explained, was abortion,” Richards writes. “If Planned Parenthood wanted to keep our federal funding, we would have to stop providing abortions. He described his ideal outcome: a national headline reading ‘Planned Parenthood Discontinues Abortion Services.'”

According Richards, Kushner added that if she agreed to the plan then funding could increase, but he urged them to “move fast.”
On Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, Richards, who led Planned Parenthood through 12 tumultuous years, said she is stepping down as its president.
