Former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright discussed the recent goings-on in Trump's White House with CNN's Fareed Zakaria and suggested that chief strategist Steve Bannon is the one "pulling the strings."
“I think that it is a very unfortunate image, because clearly, Mr. Bannon is more than a strategic adviser. I think he's the person that's pulling the strings."
Albright cited Trump's controversial executive order on Jan. 28 that restructured the National Security Council, adding Bannon and demoting key intelligence figures, as evidence for Bannon's power in the Trump administration. Albright's comments coincided with a report from the New York Times suggesting Trump did not full understand the order he was signing.
“And I think that the influence generally of Mr. Bannon is passing strange, if I may say so, given his background and his approach to national security policy, his admiration for Lenin, a number of things that trouble me a great deal about having him be in these all-important national security meetings,” concluded Albright.
