Several thousand protestors took part Sunday in a Los Angeles rally calling for U.S. President Donald Trump to be impeached, the Los Angeles Times has reported. According to the report, an address made at the rally by Democratic Representative Bradley Sherman was met with chants of "Lock him up!"

The demonstration was one of dozens of anti-Trump rallies held across the U.S., as controversy persists following the revelation that Trump allegedly requested former FBI Director James Comey to call off an investigation of ex-White House national security advisor Michael Flynn.

According to Sherman, Trump's actions amount to a "federal felony," and are cause for impeachment. Trump has disputed Comey’s account.

"We have to act now to protect our country from abuse of power and impulsive, ignorant incompetence," Sherman told the crowd, the LA Times reported.

The California congressman is only the second House Democrat to publicly call for Trump's impeachment; the majority of Democrat leaders are against the move, at least for now.
