U.S. President Donald Trump met with Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill on Tuesday as the party seeks a legislative fix to the crisis over family separations along the southern U.S. border.

Trump told reporters after a closed House Republican Conference meeting with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy that his meeting went "great".

Earlier, Trump was heckled by a lone woman who shouted an expletive at him as he walked down one of the hallways inside the Capitol building. It was unclear if the president heard the heckling as he walked alongside U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Various media reported that the woman may have been wearing a green congressional intern credential but her identify was not immediately confirmed.

Trump told the meeting of House Republicans that he supports both Republican immigration bills being considered by the chamber, a White House spokesman said.

Shortly after his meeting ended, Trump was briefly confronted by several House Democrats who held up signs in protest of the family separations and shouted at Trump as he exited the area.

Representative Steny Hoyer, the No. 2 Democrat in the U.S. House, said on Tuesday that his party is unlikely to provide any support for a Republican-drafted immigration bill that gained the backing of Trump.
