Best-selling author, activist and neuroscientist Sam Harris joined Bill Maher on the latest episode of HBO's 'Real Time.' Harris had appeared on the show before in what became a watershed moment for the program in which Harris, Maher and actor Ben Affleck got into a heated debate about Islam and Islamophobia - his latest appearance was no less interesting.
At the onset of the discussion with Harris, Maher made the blanket statement, "We both think this is a dumb idea, the Muslim ban, because we are liberals." But, as the conversation continued the two agreed that, "It's not about immigrants it's about ideas."
“You don't have to be a fascist or a racist or even a Trumpian to not want to import people into your society who think cartoonists should be killed for drawing the prophet," said Harris, who's books include titles like "Islam and the Future of Tolerance." "

"The left has allied itself with Islamists and closet Islamists," continued Harris, who added that "the president [Obama] has been lying for eight years" when saying there is no relationship between Islam and jihadism. Harris joked soon after, "If Batman were here, he would call us 'racist,'" in an apparent reference to Affleck.
Maher, who has been a longtime critic of Democrats and liberals for not denouncing Islamic values quickly agreed and tried to put Islamic extremism in context by insisting there are no parallels between the Ku Klux Klan and ISIS.
"And again, size matters," Maher quipped. "There are entire terrorists armies, ISIS, obviously, Boko Haram, al-Qaeda. People talk about the KKK like it's an equivalent. The KKK is not seeking nuclear weapons."
