Senators Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz debated tax reform in a 90 minute prime-time event on CNN Wednesday. Cruz tried to defend Donald Trump's newly released plan which would cut taxes across the board, while Sanders slammed the plan as tailor made for the wealthy.
The debate was highly substantive, but there were many heated moments, as the dislike for Cruz from Sanders was clearly evident at times. Cruz interrupted Sanders at one point and insisted, "As some might say, 'curb your enthusiasm.'" The dig was a reference to Larry David who played Sanders on "Saturday Night Live" and the recently discovered genetic connection between Sanders and comedian Larry David on the PBS program "Finding Your Roots."
“Bernie and the Democrats want to raise your taxes, and the Republicans want to cut them so that you have more in your pocket,” was the staple of Cruz's arguement against Sanders.

Sanders shot back saying, “What this entire proposal is about is to give tax breaks to people who don't need it, and you do that by making massive cuts in education, in health care, in housing, in the programs that working families desperately need.”
