Oscar night was rife with anti-Trump protests and speeches, but Audible's '1984' ad may have been the most subtle and resonate of all.

Zachary Quinto, the actor most well-known for his portrayal of 'Spock' in the latest Star Trek installments, starred in an ad that ran during this year's Academy Awards for Amazon's online audio book service Audible reading a passage from the novel “1984."

In the ad Quinto reads a short passage from the novel, which was roundly viewed as a subtle attack on the Trump administration. "If he were allowed contact with foreigners, he would discover that they are creatures similar to himself and that most that had been told about them is lies," read Quinto.

Oscar night was rife with anti-Trump protests and speeches, but Audible's "1984" ad is not the first to connect Trump with George Orwell's classic novel.  It was widely reported in the beginning weeks of the Trump administration sales of George Orwell's "1984" began to soar, as did sales of Hannah Arendt's seminal nonfiction analysis "The Origins of Totalitarianism."
