The FBI have released 27 previously unpublished image of the damage inflicted upon the Pentagon as part of the attacks that took place on September 11, 2001.

That day American Airlines flight number 77 was flown into a wing of America's defense ministry. That part of the building was undergoing renovation at the time and so there were far less people there than would normally have been.

The images show the damage sustained by the building, as well as the response of emergency teams that arrived shortly after. Over 180 were killed in the attack that day, 125 of them Pentagon employees, less than an hour after the second plane was flown into one of the Twin Towers in New York.
