President Donald Trump announced on Friday evening that he has decided to fire White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and replace him with John F. Kelly, his current Secretary of Homeland Security and a retired Four Star Marine Corps General. Trump made the announcement on his twitter account.

The major shake-up in the White House comes after a week of dramatic infighting between Priebus, a former senior political operator within the Republican Party, and Anthony Scaramucci, the new White House director of Communications. On Thursday, Scaramucci accused Priebus of leaking stories against him to the press and cursed him during an on-the-record conversation with a journalist.

Trump tweeted that Kelly was "a Great American and a Great Leader. John has also done a spectacular job at Homeland Security. He has been a true star of my Administration." Of Priebus Trump wrote "I would like to thank Reince Priebus for his service and dedication to his country. We accomplished a lot together and I am proud of him!"
