'Daily Show,' Colbert Roasts Fox News' Disgraced Bill O'Reilly in Brutal Farewells

'O'Reilly is one of the most accomplished TV personalities in the history of cable news by ratings standards. By moral standards, he was a self-righteous landfill of angry garbage,' says Stephen Colbert

Late-night comedians went into full celebration mode after Fox News announced it was cutting Bill O'Reilly's top rated "The O'Reilly Factor" from its prime-time line up after 21 years on the air.

Stephen Colbert, who himself has spent over a decade poking fun at O'Reilly (much of it on Jon Stewart's "Daily Show"), took the gloves off in covering the TV icon's epic fall.

"Now, Bill and I did not see eye to eye on anything," Colbert began. "But he's been a guest on this show, and I take no pleasure in his downfall, okay? I'm not going to sit here and publicly gloat, so Jimmy, can you take the camera off me for just a second?"

Colbert continued by putting the scandal in context: "Bill O'Reilly is one of the most accomplished TV personalities in the history of cable news by ratings standards. By moral standards, he was a self-righteous landfill of angry garbage."

For his part, Comedy Central's Trevor Noah commented on O'Reilly's fall from the point of view of Trump voters who see what happened to the influential television host as part of the crushing "social justice" war against white America – a narrative O'Reilly began.

"Here's what I don't understand: If white people don't have it good in the U.S., then which race does?" Noah quipped, "O'Reilly wasn't just a famous newsman. You know all that anger and victimhood you hear from Trump voters? A lot of that started with him."
