Report: Trump Transition Team Actively Tried to Block Security Council Resolution on Settlements

Foreign Policy reports that General Michael Flynn and Nikki Haley tried to convince UN envoys of foreign nations and the U.S. to oppose the resolution.

U.S. President Donald Trump's transition team actively tried to block the UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel's West Bank settlements in December, Foreign Policy reported Friday.

General Michael Flynn, President Trump's national security advisor designate, called the UN ambassadors of foreign nations including Uruguay and Malaysia trying to get them to vote against the resolution or at least abstain, Foreign Policy reported.

Nikki Haley, who Trump selected to serve as UN envoy, frantically tried to reach then-U.S. Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power and convince her to veto the resolution.

Trump, then president-elect, issued a statement before the vote in the Security Council, calling then-President Barack Obama to veto the resolution.

In the end, the efforts of Trump's team were unsuccessful and all but one of the 15 members of the Security Council voted for the resolution.
