Trump TV Mastermind Avi Berkowitz Tapped as Assistant to Jared Kushner

Berkowitz, a 27-year-old Harvard graduate, led the initiative for Trump Tower Live, which was seen as harbinger of impending Trump media empire.

Avi Berkowitz will join the White House staff as an assistant to Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, the president-elect's confidant and soon to be senior adviser, Politico reported Thursday.

The 27-year-old Berkowitz, a recent Harvard Law School graduate, was the man behind the talk show "Trump Tower Live," produced by the Trump campaign, which streamed live on Facebook before and after the presidential debates. The show, described by the New York Times as "essentially agitprop presented as news," fueled speculation at the time that Trump would start his own national news network.

Berkowitz also contributed articles to The Observer, the New York weekly owned by Kushner, providing coverage of student life in his Ivy League school and several op-eds.

Trump officially announced last week that Kushner will serve as an adviser in his White House, an appointment that could face legal difficulties, since anti-nepotism laws in the U.S. specifically forbid government officials to promote or appoint their own sons-in-law within the government agencies they work for. Kushner, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka, is considered one of the closest people to the president-elect and played a major role in his election victory.

Kushner's exact role and fields of responsibility in the Trump administration are not yet clear, but the president-elect has said that he intends Kushner to act as a mediator who will try to broker a peace agreement in the Middle East.
