It should be clear by now that the Donald Trump presidency was no mere aberration, and that American politics is not bouncing back to some semblance of normality after four years of temporary insanity. On the contrary: The insanity looks to be permanent, which is all the more outrageous when you consider that voters now have four years of a Trump presidency behind them. Shouldn’t that have sufficed to bring them back to their senses? If only.
