WASHINGTON Thomas R. Nides, managing director and vice chairman of Morgan Stanley, has emerged as front-runner to be the next U.S. ambassador to Israel.

Nides, whose emergence was first reported by the Washington Post on Tuesday, previously served as a deputy secretary of state and is expected to bring a unique hybrid of public and private sector experiences. He was previously considered to be among the candidates for commerce secretary in Biden's cabinet.
