Fox News deleted a cartoon of George Soros from its social media accounts Wednesday after the Anti-Defamation League accused the cable network of “casting a Jewish individual as a puppet master who manipulates national events for malign purposes.”

The illustration, which showed Soros secretly orchestrating campaigns to reform the police and justice system in the United States, was posted on Fox’s social media accounts.

It portrayed the 91-year-old Jewish financier, who is often the subject of far-right conspiracy theories, as pulling the strings of two donkeys representing the Democratic Party, efforts that were stoking lawlessness and chaos, the cartoon said.

“As we have told @FoxNews numerous times, casting a Jewish individual as a puppet master who manipulates national events for malign purposes conjures up long-standing antisemitic tropes about Jewish power + contributes to the normalization of antisemitism,” ADL tweeted. “This needs to be removed.”

This is not the first time Fox has promoted Soros conspiracy theories. In 2019, Joseph diGenova, at the time a recurring guest on the network, said on air that “there’s no doubt that George Soros controls a very large part of the career foreign service at the United States State Department. He also controls the activities of FBI agents overseas.”

Soros, a major Democratic Party donor whose Open Society Foundation funds liberal causes around the globe, often falls victim to antisemitic tropes of rich and powerful Jews pulling the strings behind the scenes. In Hungary, President Viktor Orbán has come under intense criticism from Jewish groups for accusing Soros of masterminding a migrant “invasion” of the country – rhetoric that was echoed by then-U.S. President Donald Trump when he warned of a migrant caravan heading to the United States from Mexico.

Last year, Rudy Giuliani, at the time Trump’s personal attorney, accused the Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor of “using a religion you don’t seem to accept as a shield and a sword against all criticism.”

More recently, Jewish Republican Senate candidate Josh Mandel accused Soros of helping to mastermind both the COVID-19 pandemic and the racial justice protests across the United States last year.

“In respect to coronavirus, January 6 and the entire BLM [Black Lives Matter], Antifa, riots and looting, I think a lot of this stuff were [sic] organized operations and a lot of it was funded by Soros and moneyed liberal forces,” the former Ohio treasurer told American Media Periscope in October.

“My guess is that the deep state was very involved with a lot of these operations as well,” he added.

Last month, ADL chief Jonathan Greenblatt harshly criticized Fox host Lara Logan for on-air comments in which she compared Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top U.S. public health official on infectious diseases, to Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor who selected Jewish victims for the gas chambers and conducted experiments on prisoners.

“And so, in that moment, what you see on Dr. Fauci, this is what people say to me, that he doesn’t represent science to them, he represents Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor who did experiments on Jews during the Second World War and in the concentration camps,” Logan, the host of the “Lara Logan Has No Agenda” show on streaming service Fox Nation, declared on “Fox News Primetime” on November 29.

Greenblatt tweeted in response: “There’s absolutely no comparison between COVID-19 mitigation efforts and what happened to Jews during the Holocaust.”
