A serious safety incident occurred at Ben-Gurion International Airport on Saturday night when a tire on a Transaero jet blew up during landing.
There were 129 passengers on board the Russian airline flight.
The plane, incoming from Moscow, was landing on runway number 12. A spokesman for the Israel Airport Authority said the control tower had noticed smoke coming from the landing gear, so by the time the plane had stopped, emergency services were alongside, cooling it down.
The passengers were evacuated from the plane and transferred to the terminal building. The plane was then towed to the parking area. Landings and takeoffs continued without disruption, and no injuries were reported.
