Red Sox sign RHP Ryan Dempster

The Red Sox have signed right-hander Ryan Dempster to a two-year contract. The team announced the signing yesterday, six days after two people familiar with the negotiations said Dempster had agreed to a $26.5 million deal. Dempster adds durability and experience to a rotation that underachieved last season when the Red Sox went 69-93 and finished last in the AL East. Dempster, 35, has pitched more than 200 innings in four of the past five seasons. He went 12-8 with a 3.38 ERA this year, going 5-5 with a 2.25 ERA for the Chicago Cubs and 7-3 with a 5.03 ERA for the Texas Rangers. (AP )

Super Bowl to be streamed online for second year running

The Super Bowl will be streamed online for the second straight year. Last season's game attracted 2.1 million users through the web. The TV audience was 111.3 million people. The simulcast of the CBS coverage will be available on and The league said yesterday that the Saturday wild-card games and Pro Bowl on NBC would be streamed as well. (AP )

Krzyzewski, Auriemma win U.S. coaching honors

Mike Krzyzewski and Geno Auriemma have been chosen USA Basketball coaches of the year after leading the U.S. teams to Olympic gold medals. Krzyzewski guided the U.S. men to a second straight gold to earn the honor for the fifth time. He also shared the award with Auriemma in 2010, after the Americans won gold in both the men's and women's world basketball championships. Auriemma, the Connecticut women's coach, led the U.S. women to their fifth straight Olympic gold medal, the most ever in a traditional women's team sport. Both coaches have said they don't expect to return. (AP )

Buskila retiring from sailing

Sailor Vered Buskila said yesterday she would hold a press conference, where she will announce her formal retirement. Buskila was in three Olympics in the 470 class. She and Nike Kornisky finished fourth in Beijing. (Rami Hipsh )
