If the upcoming presidential election in Egypt were up to the social media world, Kevin Spacey would be the country's next president, Al Arabiya News reported Sunday.

The real election only has two candidates, with former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi widely believed to be the safe pick over leftist candidate Hamdeen Sabahi.
However, the "House of Cards" star "has won over the hearts of many who are sharing his picture beside campaign slogans, such as 'Long Live Egypt' and 'Spacey for President'" in a "trending spoof campaign" on Twitter and Facebook, the news website reported.

Spacey plays Frank Underwood, a wily Democratic House Majority Whip who successfully engineers a campaign to become U.S. president.

The most widely shared image, according to Al Arabiya, depicts the Netflix original series star alongside the name "al-Spacey," playing off the name of the favored general.

Twitter postings include "@KevinSpacey Please consider ;) plenty of Egypitan fans want you to run for office" and "@ KevinSpacey as a President of #Egypt #LongLiveEgypt #تحيا_مصر Spacey instead of ElSisi."
