Soccer / Awat Agrees Terms With Deportivo

Racing Santander goalkeeper Dudu Awat has agreed to a five-year deal with Deportivo La Coruna.

Media reports in Spain, however, claim the Galician club is only willing to pay a million euros to Santander, which is demanding between three to four million for the Israel international.

Awat, who has been with Santander for the past three years, has one more year remaining on his contract, after which he will become a free agent.

La Coruna is hoping however to sign him at a basement price, knowing that Santander will receive nothing if it insists on running out his contract.

"There is still a lot of negotiating to do," Awat's agent, Ronen Katsav, said yesterday. "But I hope that things will work out this week, and that Dudu will move to La Coruna. However, it may have to wait until next year."

Awat said he is "happy at Santander, but La Coruna is a big club and a move there would be a recognition of my abilities."

Deportivo has won the Spanish League once (2000), the Copa del Rey twice (1995, 2002), and the Supercopa de Espana on three occasions (1995, 2000, 2002).
